THE ACADEMIC BASH—AN EDUCATIONAL STRATEGY

The academic fiesta in Quezon City Academy is a mixing together of seven curricular subjects in which the subjects could no longer still be savored by the taste buds.

Science & Technology, Mathematics, Filipino, English, Social Studies, MAPEH, TLE-ICT, become one single bowl of tossed salad, with Values Education as salad oil.

The Academic Bash has a different aura from classroom instruction. Activities in the bash develop cooperative learning while classroom instruction measures individual efforts.

 THE SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY FAIR

There is no substitute for an investigatory project as a tool for a better understanding of the scientific process. Here, students identify problems, keenly observe situations, conduct experiments, formulate hypotheses, and arrive at conclusions with solid bases.

No research study is complete without a written technical report. So students have to hone their writing skills. In the science congress they develop their speaking capability as well. They have to talk to judges, fellow investigators, & the visiting public.

No school curriculum is complete without a science and technology fair component.

 THE RECYCLING FAIR

Your visit to the recycling fair in the Biology laboratory will show how recycling could turn garbage into decors, implements, and accessories in homes and schools, and other feasibility.

Recycling could be a seed bed of many sunshine businesses. Appreciate the joy of working on recycled items in the process of helping the anti-global warming efforts to make Earth a better place to live in.

DINNER AT MANGAN

 January 16, 2017

Had a blast with my BFF Nene, Arnie (batch 2000), and her mom at Mangan Restaurant in SM City. We spent the night reminiscing about the old days over a sumptuous dinner of crispy pata, pinakbet, and a platter of pritong paborito (including chicken drumsticks, pork liempo, tilapia, fish lumpia, and dried biya fish), along with plain rice and green mango shake.

BLOGGERS BLOGGING BLOGS

Social media is one of the best ways to disseminate information, as internet users spend a significant amount of time on these platforms - googling, looking for news, or simply connecting with relatives, friends, and acquaintances.

One of the activities in my ICT (Empowerment Technologies) class is to identify the appropriate web platform for promoting social change. Students are assigned to identify a problem in their respective communities (e.g., littering, stray dogs/cats, improper garbage disposal, blocked drainage, noisy neighbors, snatching, vandalism, etc.). They are then asked to create a website where they can post or blog about these issues, aiming to persuade both community leaders and residents or homeowners to help solve the problems in their area.

The social media platforms my students used to raise awareness about their chosen community issues include social networks (e.g., Facebook, Twitter) and blogs and forums (e.g., Blogspot).

Here are some of the community problem-related blogs submitted by my ICT students during SY 2016–2017:
